Michelle Porter has 25 years of personal experience using a wheelchair after she was in a car accident which left her paralyzed from the waist down. She has over 5 years of experience assisting people to live a more independent life through DAC. Michelle is an Independent Living Specialist, works with Assistive Technology and also helps make homes accessible for persons with a disability. She also participated in making more accessible transportation in our area and has started a mobility program with a private citizen who helps fix scooters and power chairs. Currently, she works as a Transition Coordinator helping people in the Coeur d’Alene area transition out of nursing homes into their own home where they can live independently. Living independently herself, Michelle understands the importance of living an independent life and the freedom of making your own life choices. She has most recently taken on the challenge of learning the ADA Requirements for accessible parking.
