Frida Halo was a role model for artists and people with disabilities. She had multiple disabilities including polio as a child and spinal and pelvis damage from a car accident. While recovering from that accident, she started to paint. She actually considered becoming a doctor rather than a painter. Some of her art portrays her disability in a gory mixing of fantasy and fact. Her right leg had to be amputated below the knee. Even though she was devastated she tried to make light of the loss, writing “Feet, why do I want them if I have wings to fly?”
