I have been searching for years for a one-handed controller or an accessory to attach to a game controller to make playing video games easier for me. I was so overjoyed when I finally found an accessory to adapt a PlayStation 5 Controller for one handed operation!
This accessory is created by Akaki and located overseas. They make accessories for PS4 and PS5 controllers, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One controllers as well as Nintendo Switch.
I was so excited when it arrived in the mail, I slapped the accessory on to the controller and started using it right away. The first thing that stood out is how the accessory brought all the buttons on the right side of the controller within reach of my left hand. The other feature that I find exquisite is that the right joystick is now operated by an arm on the underside of the controller. I now have the option to operate both joysticks at the same time if need be.
This controller attachment has expanded my ability to play games in more than one way. It not only opened a richness to my gaming experience, it also gave me the ability to play games that normally I could not because of the complexity of certain games. Granted I’m not a professional gamer but for my level of game play the attachment serves me well. Instead of anxiety from jockeying the controller into different positions so that I can use all the buttons and joysticks at different intervals of game play, (which creates a poor gaming experience), I now have more control over my experience and less wrestling with the controller.
Hiccups I felt were minor. First, the buttons are confusing, but once I remembered the button layout things went smoothly. Second, I had an issue with the virtual world spinning around the character. Turns out two rubber bands work better to control the right joystick because it has more tension and brings it back to center when not in use. The only other issue I have with this accessory, is the buttons on the side of the controller are hard to manipulate with one finger. This is evident when I’m playing a high action game where I need to press multiple buttons at the same time. I must learn to implement two fingers to operate those buttons.
All things said, any one-handed gamers out there wanting to play video games but find it to daunting, this may be just what you’re looking for.
