BluePath – Working towards accessibility

As a business, if you are working towards accessibility, you can list your business on BluePath. The Nez Perce Wallowa Homeland Visitor Center is doing just that. They want to become as accessible as possible, and have created several work arounds to achieve that while they wait for more funding for larger projects. In their center you can explore photos and artifacts, maps and art, plus a miniature tipi and activities for the kids. Their video has subtitles and if a docent is available they can share and interpret their exhibits for you. You will learn about the Wallowa area and the Native Americans that have always populated it. They also host numerous events for tribes on their beautiful and spacious grounds.

Though their parking isn’t marked, there is space for deploying a ramp on packed gravel. And one entrance does lead you to a step down. You can avoid the step with a separate door that goes directly into the visitor center. All of these work arounds are on the BluePath site with photos illustrating what you may find there. If you think it is still not accessible to you, they have all of their exhibits available online.

That is the purpose of BluePath – not to exclude but to help a business become even more accessible with helpful, inexpensive things they can do to work towards a more inclusive world. As the Visitor Center makes more accessibility improvements, they will update their page on BluePath.
