DAC NW HOSTS 6th ANNUAL MENTAL HEALTH 5K

NEWS FROM DAC NW

The community is invited to participate in the Mental Health 5K on Saturday, April 12th. This year’s theme is Sharing our Stories of Wellness. The event kicks off with a rally in Friendship Square featuring speakers, mental health resources and activities. Keynote Speaker is Psychologist Leslie Robison. She will present about Creating Your Own Healthy Story.

You can learn about Recovery Oriented System of Care from Latah Recovery Center. Progress, Not Perfection by Pullman City Councilmember Nathan Weller. A poetry reading of “You Get Proud by Practicing” by Disability Action Center NW, plus many more presentations.

“Anyone interested in supporting mental health in our area is encouraged to attend,” said Sharlisa Davis, certified facilitator of the LAMI Group. “Mental illness is a disease, not a decision. We can all be part of the solution.”

Check in starts at 10am and the 5K will begin at noon from Friendship Square. You can register here and receive a FREE t-shirt, and light up shoelaces. If someone is unable to participate in the in-person 5K, we invite you to do your own 5K anytime throughout May to celebrate May Mental Health Awareness Month. At the end of May there will be a picnic to celebrate those who participated by their recorded times, place, how they did in their 5K, etc.

Cost is free, but donations are appreciated. We are hoping to raise $5,000 to ensure we can continue to break the mental health stigma that leaves so many people silently suffering. Please consider a gift of $5.00 or more to ensure we can keep working towards advancing the well-being and recovery of persons who have mental illnesses and their families within our communities.
