From the Editor…

I’m at a transition conference for helping young people with a disablity transition to the next stage of their life. I like to call this Adulting. So much of what will come in a persons future depends on making some decisions. Where do I want to live? What do I want to do for work? Do I want to mostly work on my own or with a group of people? How much interdependence do I need to have a safety net? What risks do I feel ready to take?

Transitioning is more than just finding a job and moving out, however. You need to learn to navigate having a relationship, advocate for your needs now and later. And it is always changing….right up to retirement!

If you have a disability and are ready for a “next stage of adulting” and are not sure what to do, stop by your local CIL or give them a call for a one-on-one meeting over zoom. Our services are FREE and are relevant at whatever stage of life you are at.

If you have something for the newsletter, let us know at dac@dacnw.org.
