MOUTH MAGAZINE

As part of a generous Campus Climate Grant, the UMass’s Alliance Against Ableism created an exhibition of curated political cartoons from Mouth Magazine. Mouth was founded by disability activist Lucy Gwin.

“Through the often acerbic pages of Mouth and her other activism, Gwin took on a wide range of issues… insisting on the necessity of an all-disability rights approach, advocating for home- and community-based services, critiquing the concept of “normality” and the myriad systemic failures to cope with disability.”

Quotes to make you think…

“Disability is articulated as a struggle, an unnecessary burden that one must overcome to the soundtrack of a string crescendo. But disabled lives are multi-faceted – brimming with personality, pride, ambition, love, empathy, and wit.”

~ Sinead Burke, writer, academic, activist and broadcaster.
