November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, a time when communities across the country seek to bring attention to diabetes. It’s a good time to take action to prevent diabetes health problems. Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high.

When it is not managed, diabetes can damage the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart and is linked to some types of cancer. Some tips to help? Manage your glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. Take care of your mental health. Make lifestyle changes to develop healthy habits. Take your medicines on time, even if you feel healthy. Work together with your primary care provider. They can help you manage your disease and refer you to a health care professional for related health problems promptly.
