There are times in life when the weight we carry makes even the smallest task feel impossible. When brushing your teeth, returning a text, or getting out of bed seems out of reach. We all face those moments – quiet, heavy, and often invisible to the world around us.
In those times, the advice we hear so often is “take care of yourself” and that can feel like a mountain we don’t have the energy to climb. But there is something else we can do, something simple, powerful, and profoundly healing:
SHOW UP.
If you can’t show up for yourself just yet, show up for someone else.
Show up for your family, even if all you can offer is your presence. Show up for your friends with a phone call, a shared silence, or a kind word. Show up for your neighbors with a wave, a check-in, or a smile on the sidewalk. Show up for your community – volunteer, attend, support, contribute in whatever way you can.
When you show up for others, something shifts. It reminds you that you are part of sometyhing larger, that your presence matters, and that you are not alone. Sometimes, lifting someone else up is the very thing that helps us rise too.
Mental health is not a solitary journey. It’s a shared one. And healing doesn’t always come in dramatic breakthroughs – it often begins with the smallest gesture: being there.
So if today feels like too much, don’t aim for perfect. Don’t aim for progress.
Just aim to show up.
The rest can follow.
