Mouth Magazine

Mouth was first printed in 1990 as a publication for people with disabilities. A dozen readers suggested a less rude name change to Voice, stating “You catch more flies with honey…”

Who but an ugly toad would want to catch flies?

Historically, Mouth brings the independence conversation down to street level, where they discuss the well intentioned programs that actually wreak havoc on the lives of the disabled. They were outspoken saying, “If special education is so darned special, every kid in every school ought to have the benefit of it.”

Often called radical, the publication was focused on how policy makers were out of touch with actual lives of people with disabilities. Have the do-gooders actually checked themselves into a nursing home? Have they tried to board an accessible bus in a wheelchair? Tried to file an ADA complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice?

They were quick to point out the Do-Gooders doing good “about us – without us.”
