Accessible Tourism at its Best!

BONNEVILLE FISH HATCHERY

On the drive through the Columbia Gorge, there is a great stop for you to visit that is fully accessible. The Bonneville Fish Hatchery has it all – accessible parking, paved pathways, even the gift shop is accessible.

The grounds are stunning with flowers and other plantings throughout. The viewing tanks have salmon and sturgeon, including Herman the Sturgeon who is 11 feet long. There is a ramp to allow visitors to the below water viewing windows.

Plan on bringing some pocket change to feed the salmon in the outdoor ponds – they love it and the birds are happy to have any handouts.

Bring a picnic lunch and stay for the afternoon. The visitor center has educational videos and staff is always willing to talk about their work at the tanks with different stages of salmon developing.

The gift shop is mostly easy to get around and features espresso. Staff will happily help you with anything that may be out of reach.

And the best part – your visit it FREE!
