LAUNCHING PATHWAYS TO PARTNERSHIPS

There is an effort across the state of Idaho to improve the outcomes of Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE). DAC NW, along with the other CIL’s in Idaho will be participating in pilot programs in Lapwai and Coeur d’Alene. Providing all sorts of transition services to not only those in school, but also young people outside of school. We seek to help them discover what they want for the next step in life and find out what resources they need to achieve it. The key to this step is Self Determination.

It can start with something as basic as a “Menu”. From this a young person with a disability can select the next thing they feel ready to tackle. The key to this is understanding what they want.

SAMPLE MENU

Starters:

Like an appetizer, these are short activities that can help focus on social skills, understanding their own needs, and how to find resources to help with that exploration.

The Main Course:

This would be some full training on advocacy skills, independent living skills, goal setting and attainment.

And Deliciously Fun Add Ons or Dessert!

This would be short and sweet activities to help understand technology like Chat GPT and other AI, and its limitations. They can learn to use online programs that can help build their resume, interview skills and more.

This partnership between resource providers will focus on some key pilot schools as we get the program off the ground, and we will also make this program available to young people with disabilities all over northern Idaho!
