Disability Community Festival
We celebrate the Americans with Disabilities Act and encourage everyone to reflect on what the ADA means to us and what efforts are still needed for civil rights and equality for all. We mark this month to celebrate and remember how far we’ve come.
LIFE Inc is hosting a free celebration for family and friends! It starts at 11am and food will be served to 1:30 or until it’s gone.
It will be held at the Veterans Memorial Building located at 300 N Johnson Ave, in Pocatello, Idaho. Tickets are available at your local LIFE office.
The ADA
Disability rights are civil rights. From voting, service animals, and parking, the ADA is a law that protects people with disabilities in many areas of public life.
Each July, we celebrate the anniversary of a major milestone in America’s ongoing quest to build a more equitable, inclusive society — the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990.
Like other civil-rights laws, the ADA was both a victory and a vow. It marked the culmination of tireless efforts on the part of many individuals, organizations and allies to affirm the rights of people with disabilities across community life. Most importantly, it established a channel for upholding those rights.
On July 26, 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the most sweeping affirmation of rights for the disabled in American history at the time, into law.
