Neurodiversity Training in the WorkplaceWells Fargo is partnering with University of Connecticut to help Fortune 500 companies create neurodiversity initiatives. They will cover the cost of the training as part of a $3.75 million grant to the University of Connecticut’s Center for Neurodiversity and Employment Innovation.
Workshops will bring together leaders from 10 to 15 organizations to learn how to form neurodiversity initiatives at their companies.
“Wells Fargo’s willingness to share their real-world industry expertise to create — and deliver at no cost — education for corporate America that’s grounded in academic and research excellence is unheard of in this field,” said Judy Reilly, executive director of UConn’s Center for Neurodiversity and Employment Innovation.
“This partnership enables UConn to blend academic instructional design and research with real-world industry application and expertise to create solutions for corporate America.”
An estimated 1 in 6 individuals fall into the neurodivergent community, but 66% of them are underemployed or unemployed despite being highly skilled.
Wells Fargo launched their neurodivergent program in 2020 and have experienced first hand the impact of these highly skilled individuals. They want to educate other companies and bring awareness about this extraordinarily valuable and untapped talent pool. They plan to bring together 10-15 organizations at University of Connecticut to host full day workshops on how to form neurodiversity and inclusion programs. In addition to the education and training, they will follow up with support research to look at the outcomes for these businesses and work to connect job seekers with available employment.
