Bringing People to Golf – Creating Accessible and Inclusive Environments
There will be an online training on creating barrier free golf on October 10th, 2-3:30 ET. Participants will learn how to utilize the free resources offered by the Alliance including the Golf Access and Inclusion Network ® (GAIN) and the Alliance Education Hub. Additionally, Dave and Jan will share typical challenges to enter into the game for people with disabilities, best practices and actions golf and recreational program leaders and facilities can undertake to create accessible and inclusive environments and will highlight the increasing demand for accessible golf programs and competitions at both the local and national levels.
Some of the ways a course can be accessible is by offering plenty of room around the greens and multiple access points that avoid obstacles such as bunkers or steep slopes. Accessibility is an essential part of making golf fun and safe for people who have mobility issues.
Training will be proved by Dave Barton, PGA Executive Director of the National Alliance for Accessible Golf, and Jan Bel Jan, Alliance Board Member and Past President of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) as they share educational resources, best practices, and networking opportunities the Alliance delivers connecting the game of golf to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Joining Dave and Jan for this webinar and Q&A will be Jason Sfire, COO/President/Co- Owner, The Fidelity Companies, National Alliance Board Member, Board President of the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association, and a multi-sport adaptive athlete and coach as he shares some of his experiences related to adaptive golf.
They will provide Open or Closed Captions and materials will be available in Alternate Formats. If you are a person with a disabilities, State and Local Government, ADA Coordinator, Consumer Advocate, Family Member of Person With Disability, Practitioners, or a Service Provider you are encouraged to attend.
