SUMMARY:Claiming Your Rights - How to be Your Own Patient Advocate
DESCRIPTION:The American Disability Act made it illegal to discriminate against people with disabilities. How does that affect people with disabilities as they navigate the healthcare system? The American Disability Act (ADA) is Civil Rights law. This program will cover how the ADA protects people with disabilities and will explain what their rights are when they seek healthcare. It will also give practical advice on how to be your own patient advocate. This covers how to talk to your doctor and how to advocate for yourself as you navigate the healthcare system. \nThis is for people with disabilities; their caregivers\, family\, and friends; and those interested in the subject. \nPresented by Barbara Merchant\, M.Ed. from Disability Action Center NW
