Nikki Otero Lockwood – Nikki knows stories are powerful and has used her community organizing skills to build power to address disability issues for students in Spokane. An admirer of Frida Kahlo, a self-taught, iconic creator of vibrant, expressive art who endured a lifetime of physical disabilities, she knows the value of resilience and re-inventing oneself to meet challenges. Building community leadership capacity through organizing and using her power as an elected leader to work for equity in education has provided her with purpose. You can usually find her immersed in Spokane’s first cohousing community, Haystack Heights, a unique housing option in the Perry District.
